The majority of Orangeries built in modern times, are now extension areas of the main/host property. They are sometimes made of stone/brick areas and have hardwood frames with a glass roof and parapet walls to the roof section. They are substantial in construction and usually have fine details to the pilasters and cornice mouldings which sets them apart from conservatories.
They are used nowadays for social reasons and are light and airy and can be used all the year round.
Having designed and built Orangeries, they are bespoke to every property.
We design the Orangery with the host property features in mind and they still are subject to the normal Planning Permission and PDR’s.
Sometimes, Planning Permission is not required, but they are subject to Building Regulations in the normal way.
This is particularly important, if you wish to open up the part of the property into the Orangery on a permanent basis. Ie. You remove the doors to the orangery from the house.
